Great Lakes Region. Along their journey, rivers like the Illinois
provide
habitat, food, and shelter for the birds. The Great Lakes Radio

NOAA Closing Gauging Stations
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has decided to
remove a total of 13 gauging stations from around the Great Lakes
region. The stations take continual readings of lake levels. NOAA says
the removal is part of an effort to cut costs and remove obsolete
stations, but some policy-makers say the timing couldn’t be worse. The

Canada Tests Landfills for Gas Levels
Environmentalists in Ontario, Canada are demanding nationwide testing
of the air around landfills. The action was sparked by a news report
that claimed the Ontario Ministry of Environment halted real estate
development near one Toronto area landfill over concern about vinyl

Measuring Stick for Health of Great Lakes
The governments of Canada and the United States are working to come up with a set of measurements to tell whether the Great Lakes are healthy. The two countries want to use the same measuring stick so they can accurately compare data. The Great Lakes Radio Consortium’s Lester Graham has the story:
