IT CAN ALSO STAND ALONE. ADJUST HOST INTRO AS NECESSARY. THANK YOU.<<<<<<<<<<<<<< #1 AUTOS PART 1: MAKING GREEN MAINSTREAM For a lot of people, the words "hybrid vehicle" bring to mind dinky little commuter cars that would get creamed in the fast lane. But red-blooded horsepower fans might soon be able to get speed, performance, and fuel efficiency in the same car. In the first of a two-part series on green cars, Sarah Hulett (HEW-let) brings us this story about the marriage of mean and green: CUT: HULETT (4:15 "...I'M SARAH HULETT.") HOST TAG: Tomorrow, hear about the next big thing in car battery technology. LOCAL HOST PROMO (:15): "Coming up next... putting some muscle into hybrid cars. In the first of a two- part series on green cars, the Environment Report's Sarah Hulett (HEW-let) looks at the auto industry's effort to make green mainstream. Fast cars and hybrid cars used to be mutually exclusive. Carmakers say they don't have to be. Putting mean into green... coming up." #2 AUTOS PART 1: MAKING GREEN MAINSTREAM (cutaway) See lede and promo above. CUT: HULETT (3:30 "...I'M SARAH HULETT.") #3 AUTOS PART 1: MAKING GREEN MAINSTREAM (spot) For many drivers, buying a "greener" car means sacrificing speed and performance. But as Sarah Hulett (HEW-let) reports, that's beginning to change: CUT: HULETT (:47 "...I'M SARAH HULETT.") >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ATTENTION STATIONS<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< THE FOLLOWING DWYER FEATURE IS THE SECOND OF A TWO-PART SERIES. IT CAN ALSO STAND ALONE. ADJUST HOST INTRO AS NECESSARY. THANK YOU.<<<<<<<<<<<<<< #4 AUTOS PART 2: CARMAKERS SLOW TO ADOPT NEW BATTERY (cutaway length) Car companies are making plenty of promises these days about future cars that will save you gas. To make them happen, automakers are counting on a new kind of battery. They're called lithium ion batteries. These batteries could bring about a revolution in automobiles. In the second part of a two-part series on green cars, Dustin Dwyer (DWHY- er) reports it could take a while for the revolution to get here: CUT: DWYER (3:19 "...I'M DUSTIN DWYER.") LOCAL HOST PROMO (:15): "Coming up next... giving cars some new juice. In the second of our two-part series on green cars, the Environment Report's Dustin Dwyer reports on lithium ion batteries. They're more efficient than other batteries and they're in your cell phone and laptop. But the jump to cars is running into some problems. The next big thing in cars... coming up." #5 AUTOS PART 2: CARMAKERS SLOW TO ADOPT NEW BATTERY (spot) Automakers say they're working on new hybrid vehicles that could get more than one hundred miles to the gallon. But they say the key to getting there is a new kind of battery. Dustin Dwyer (DWHY-er) reports: CUT: DWYER (:48 "...I'M DUSTIN DWYER.") #6 FARMERS WORK TO CONSERVE WATER Some experts say water will be the "oil" of the next generation. As it becomes scarcer, prices are going to go up. For farmers, that's serious business. Kyle Norris recently spent time with several farmers who say they think about water constantly: CUT: NORRIS (3:57 "...I'M KYLE NORRIS.") LOCAL HOST PROMO (:15): "Coming up next... farmers and water. The Environment Report's Kyle Norris visits a small farm where they practice something called biodynamic farming. The farmers try to be in tune with the soil and the water. They avoid pulling water out of the ground to irrigate their crops – and they work to keep the soil rich. A visit to a small organic farm... coming up." #7 FARMERS WORK TO CONSERVE WATER (cutaway) See lede and promo above. CUT: NORRIS (3:30 "...I'M KYLE NORRIS.") #8 FARMERS WORK TO CONSERVE WATER (spot) The cost and availability of fresh water are becoming serious issues. Irrigation for agriculture is one of the biggest uses of water. And for many farmers, this will mean re-examining their water usage. Kyle Norris has more: CUT: NORRIS (:47 "...I'M KYLE NORRIS.") ***SPOTS #9 MORE CORN GOES TO FUEL The hunger to turn plants such as corn and soybeans into biofuels is growing. But some experts say using food for fuel is unwise. Kyle Norris reports: CUT: NORRIS (:46 "...I'M KYLE NORRIS.") #10 GOVERNMENT DROPS JAGUAR RECOVERY PLAN In a rare move, the U-S Fish and Wildlife Service says it won't try to save an endangered animal. Rebecca Williams reports critics say the government is giving up on the endangered jaguar: CUT: WILLIAMS (:49 "...I'M REBECCA WILLIAMS.") #11 EDISON'S INVENTION GETTING DIMMER One out of every five light bulbs sold in the U-S is a compact fluorescent. That's according to new market data put out by the Environmental Protection Agency. Mark Brush reports: CUT: BRUSH (:45 "...I'M MARK BRUSH.") ***END DACS THANK YOU***
